Sam Hart imposed his will on the Torch from the get-go. Relying mainly on his cutter, the left-hander spearheaded the 4-1 Laredo triumph. Hart, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The loss drops Mancelona to 3-5.
The Hawks got a big at-bat from designated hitter Brian Pilgrim. For the game, Pilgrim went 1 for 4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Laredo a 2-1 lead.
"Sam has got a slow heartbeat," said Laredo manager José Gato. "He doesn't panic or anything."
