Manatees Out of Time, Out of Playoffs

The 2062 season has hardly been a memorable one for the Matlacha Manatees and now fans must deal with the fact that the club has been officially eliminated from playoff contention.
The Manatees have missed the playoffs 14 times in their 17 years as a M3L Single A franchise. This playoff miss is the club's 4th in a row, with their last postseason appearance coming in 2058. In the last 10 seasons, the Manatees have missed the playoffs 8 times. Matlacha has won the 3L A Championship 6 times in their history.

5-Hit Barrage by De La Torre

Some moments become linked with a particular player's career forever. Pedro De La Torre of the Laredo Hawks had one of those moments when he went 5-for-5 at the plate in his team's 8-1 win over the Pontiac Godfathers at Pontiac Copperdome.
"I won't forget this anytime soon, and I don't expect it to happen too often," the 21-year-old left fielder told reporters in the postgame interview. "I'll be happy to just get a hit or two every day. Enough to hang around the league a while longer. Like 10, maybe 15 more years."
Pedro De La Torre singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Joe Preston in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run double in the 8th.
To date De La Torre has chalked up a .314 average with 6 home runs, driven in 32 runs and scored 25 times.

Vibes Get Zip in 2-0 Loss to Abonia

It was a long day at the plate for the Rocky Mountain Vibes at Waterfall Park. They never figured out Niagara Falls Expos starter Robinson Abonia and were shut out, 2-0. The left-hander baffled the Vibes the entire game, yielding no runs and giving up 5 hits in a well-pitched outing. Abonia also totaled 8 strikeouts and no walks in the game.
This year, Abonia has a 3-7 record with a 4.80 ERA.
