Powered by Ben Álvarez, the Philadelphia Liberty Academy downed the Vancouver Vipers, 9-2. Álvarez was 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Liberty Academy. Philadelphia, at 11-10, sits in 5th place in the Premier AA.
The Vipers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Liberty Academy going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old second baseman Vincent Bordes came to the plate. Bordes hit a 2-run double on a first pitch curveball from Vancouver hurler Juan Ríos. It was Bordes's 4th double of the year.
Said losing manager Rafael Longoria: "Give the Liberty Academy credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."
