6-5 Loss Extends Nuevo Mexico Losing Streak
The Nuevo Mexico Mariachis got a sterling performance from left fielder Donnie MacKim, but the Marquette Miners still prevailed, 6-5. MacKim went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs. John Rutledge, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 3.1 innings. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Cam Stone.

The Mariachis had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Miners going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old left fielder Francisco Ferreira came to the plate. Ferreira hit a 3-run home run on a 1-1 cutter from Nuevo Mexico hurler José Tapia. It was Ferreira's 6th home run of the year.

"Nervous? No," said Ferreira. "It was my time to shine."

The slumping Mariachis have lost 6 straight.
