Atoms Field hosted a real pitchers' duel.

In a low-scoring contest between the Bethesda Atoms and the Vancouver Vipers, Walt Stephens was the X factor. The Bethesda left-hander spearheaded the 2-0 win. The winner was Stephens. He threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Luis Palma.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Atoms had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when left fielder Henry Snider hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Luis Palma and made the score 1-0, Atoms. Snider was 2 for 4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Stephens said after the game.

With the win, the Atoms have a record of 12-14.
