Pierogis Pull Off Thrilling 6-4 Win in Extras
|
Fans who congregated at Vipers Ballpark were treated to extra-inning drama.
In the 6-4 Squirrel Hill win over Vancouver, the impact of Reed Francis was substantial. Francis, the 5th overall pick in the 2056 draft, was 1 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The win was credited to Sterling Reece in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Sean Ellis took the loss.
Squirrel Hill used the timely hitting of Tomás Orro to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Pierogis on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Nice win for us," said Francis. "Now we'll go after the next one."
Squirrel Hill now sports a record of 11-18.
