In a low-scoring tilt between the Marquette Miners and the Gulf Coast Turbeaus, Kiyonaga Kondo, who is tied for 8th in the PAA in wins with 3, was the difference-maker. The Marquette right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Marquette reliever Bo Taylor picked up the win to move to 2-0. Bubba Orr suffered the loss. With the win, Marquette pushed its record to 18-13.
Marquette needed the clutch hitting of José Cabrera to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Miners on top, 3-2. For the game, Cabrera had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Feels good to get the job done," Cabrera said after the game.
