The Arizona Javelina used the hitting of catcher Jerry Howard to subdue the Vancouver Vipers, 6-5. For the game, Howard went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. The win went to Pedro Rodríguez in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Len Johnson took the loss. Arizona is now 15-17, Vancouver 15-17.

Had Howard not come through in the bottom of the eighth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Howard hit a grand slam home run. The Javelina took the lead, 6-5, and never looked back.

"See ball, hit ball. When I think too much, that's when I get in trouble," Howard told the Arizona Chronicle.
