Rainbow Mermaids Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids wiggled past the Buffalo White Walkers, 5-4, at Atlantica. The win was highlighted by the performance of Northern Virginia pitcher Wes Johnston. The win went to Quinton Barnard in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Joaquín Herrera took the loss. The Rainbow Mermaids raised their record to 51-43.
The decisive blow was delivered by António Merano in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a bases-clearing double off 25-year old right-handed pitcher Jeff Riley to win the game for Northern Virginia. The home crowd went nuts.
"This place was rocking at the end," Merano said.
