Mariachis Edge Mercer Island in Pitching Duel

The Nuevo Mexico Mariachis, behind a great outing from Curtis López, who is tied for 2nd in the PAA in innings pitched with 51.0, defeated the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 1-0, at Mariachi Band Shell. The winning pitcher was López, now 3-3. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 8. Quinton Barnard recorded the save, his 8th.
Carter Clark made an early impact for Nuevo Mexico when he stroked his 6th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which came with one out in the bottom of the first, put the Mariachis on top, 1-0.
"It was our day today," Clark told the Nuevo Mexico Herald. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
The third-place Mariachis lifted their record to 17-16.
