Bethesda Dealt 5-2 Defeat
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of the 27-year old left fielder Jay Mirka, the St. Petersburg Thunder defeated the Bethesda Atoms, 5-2. José Bustamante got the save, the 1st for him this season. St. Petersburg is now 15-21. Bethesda is 19-17.
A critical at-bat came in the top of the seventh inning when the Thunder sent 21-year-old second baseman Willie Nelson to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a 2-run single, to put St. Petersburg on top, 5-2.
"I thought we competed really well," said Thunder manager Terrence Eler. "I thought the energy was really good."
