The Washington Generals had to overcome a fine effort from Columbia pitcher Juan Hernández to win, 5-4, at Washington Park. Hernández went 6 innings and allowed no runs. With the win, Washington is 5-6.

Timely hitting helped the Generals beat the River Rats. Prime example: the two-out single Jorge Rivera registered in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Melvin Riggle, Rivera gave his team the lead, 5-4, when he hit a run-scoring single.

"We ground out the win," said Rivera. "That's all that matters."
