Asheville Wins, Weber drives in 4 runs
|
The Asheville Highlanders topped the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 8-4, the lion's share of the credit going to left fielder John Weber. On the day, Weber went 2 for 2 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4 for the Highlanders. Asheville reliever Viriato Hembise picked up the win, raising his record to 1-1. Vicente Valentín was tagged with the loss. At 24-20, the Highlanders claim 5th place in the Premier AA.
Asheville used the bat of Lorenzo Álvarez to get the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Highlanders ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Álvarez told the Asheville Gazette.
