The Bethesda Atoms and Philadelphia Liberty Academy riveted fans at Liberty Academy Field.
The Philadelphia Liberty Academy picked up a win at Liberty Academy Field, knocking off the Bethesda Atoms, 6-1. Starting pitcher Michael Adkins was a big reason why. Adkins, now 2-4, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 12 hits, while striking out 2, walking 0, and allowing 1 run.
Joe Hughes had a big 3-run home run for the Liberty Academy in the bottom of the second inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Roberto Valdéz and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Liberty Academy on top, 4-0.
"We have a lot of confidence in Michael," said Philadelphia manager Clarence Miller.
At 21-26, the Liberty Academy are currently 7th in the Premier AA.
