Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Pipers Ballpark.

Jussi Salmelainen pitched a gem to lead Washington to victory over the Caldwell Chiefs, 3-1, in 12 innings. Joe Burkett recorded his 3rd save for Washington.

Though he did not get the decision, Salmelainen did all he could to keep his team close, twirling a shutout through 8 innings, until Washington eventually rallied past the Chiefs.

"I just tried to focus on getting that first guy out every inning," said Salmelainen.

Washington sits at 6-7.
