Toledo got a terrific game from second baseman Joaquín Rodríguez. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Boston, 6-5. Rodríguez was 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 2. Vic Byrd, 4-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. The Patriots now have a record of 55-41 with the win over Toledo.

Tied up with the Stingers in the top of the fourth inning, the Patriots got a boost from third baseman Bill Meeks. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Meeks saw a 2-1 fastball from Jacobim Mugatu and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Boston on top, 1-0.

"We found a way to get it done," Meeks said.
