Fighting Imps Score Late, Upend Thunder, 2-0
|
The St. Petersburg Thunder could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Greg Concepción into a win. Instead, the Ithaca Fighting Imps prevailed, 2-0. Concepción threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. By defeating St. Petersburg, the 6th-place Fighting Imps improved to 25-24.
Tony Jump came through with a big-time hit for Ithaca. The right fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-0. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said St. Petersburg manager Terrence Eler.
