In a low-scoring affair between the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis and the Ithaca Fighting Imps, pitcher José Tapia was the difference between victory and defeat. The Nuevo Mexico left-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-0 Mariachis win. Nuevo Mexico has a record of 30-21, placing them second in the Premier AA.

With two out in the bottom of the third, Bruce Wood put Nuevo Mexico in front, 1-0, with a run-scoring single. The Mariachis went on to win the ballgame.

"The name on the front of this uniform is all that matters to me," Wood told the Nuevo Mexico Observer. "And padding the Nuevo Mexico win column."
