The bat of Bill Meeks helped the Boston Patriots top the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 4-3. Meeks was 2-4 with 2 home runs for Boston. Lawrence Wood was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 17 save opportunities. The triumph puts Boston at 60-37 for the season.

Matt Craig came through with a big-time hit for Boston. The catcher smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Meeks said.
