Valéncia Helps Pierogis Defeat Krewe, 13-5
|
Squirrel Hill third baseman Gonzalo Valéncia played a vital role in his team's 13-5 conquest of Crescent City. He was 2 for 2 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4 for Squirrel Hill. José Garza, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 3-3. Gary Fleming earned the save for Squirrel Hill, his 1st.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Pierogis grabbed the lead when Shan-tang Zhou rapped a two-out single. Squirrel Hill was trailing 2-1, when Zhou hit a 2-run single off Jesse Blanton to put his team in front, 3-2.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Zhou.
