The Nuevo Mexico Mariachis weathered a fine game by Squirrel Hill designated hitter Todd Bartlett to upend the Pierogis, 6-5, at Mariachi Band Shell. Bartlett was 4 for 6 with 4 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Harry Arrington came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 2-4. The Mariachis improved their record to 30-29 by beating Squirrel Hill.
The Mariachis got a clutch hit from shortstop Wally Valdés. In the bottom of the 11th, he hit a run-scoring single to left, to win the game for the Mariachis.
"It's great to see the crowd jacked up," Valdés said.
