Liberty Academy Get Clutch Win, 4-3
|
The Liberty Academy grabbed a win, 4-3, at Vipers Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from Vancouver pitcher Dale Allen. Allen went 5 innings and allowed no runs. The winner in relief was Tim Jones. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-1. The 9th-place Liberty Academy are now 26-34, the Vipers 35-25.
Philadelphia used the timely hitting of Joe Hughes to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Liberty Academy on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Vancouver manager Rafael Longoria. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
