Lawler Socks 2 Home Runs in 6-5 Chesapeake Win
|
The Crescent City Krewe and Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas provided some drama for the home crowd.
Chesapeake second baseman Bill Lawler was instrumental in helping the Cangrejos Fantasmas triumph, 6-5, over the Crescent City Krewe. Lawler went 3-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Tanner Ellis, now 4-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. Martín Orozco wrapped it up, recording his 2nd save.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Carlos Gómez came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Crescent City pitcher Rich Griffin, he hit a 3-1 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Chesapeake on top, 6-5.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Gómez.
