Screaming Eagles Fall Short, 2-1, at Vancouver
|
Mercer Island got a big-time effort from pitcher Rick Burnett, but it wasn't enough to keep the Vancouver Vipers from winning the game, 2-1. Burnett threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Picking up the win was David Ramos. He went 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 8 hits. The right--hander struck out 9 and walked 1. Bobby Spears was called on to finish, recording his 20th save.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Vipers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when third baseman Jeremy Hoover hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Rick Burnett and made the score 2-1, Vipers. Hoover went 1 for 3.
"Every loss hurts," said Mercer Island manager Eric Todd. "But this was a tough one."
Vancouver is now 35-29.
