The St. Petersburg Thunder had to overcome a fine effort from Mercer Island pitcher Fernando López to win, 5-3, at Baby Thunder Dome. López went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. The 7th-place Thunder bumped their record to 29-36.

St. Petersburg took a 5-3 lead on Tenho Rautee's 2nd double of the season. The 2-run double, which Rautee hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Mercer Island pitcher Robert Martin visibly frustrated.

St. Petersburg manager Terrence Eler was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
