Atoms Grind Out 2-1 Win
|
Curtis López pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Nuevo Mexico Mariachis, despite López's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Bethesda Atoms at Mariachi Band Shell. Robby McIntyre picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Curtis López suffered the loss. Bethesda has now won 4 games in a row.
Bethesda used the timely hitting of Townes van Zandt to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Atoms on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Good ballgame," said Nuevo Mexico manager Andrés Ventura. "But we came up on the short end."
