Screaming Eagles Earn Clutch Win, 5-4
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles weathered a fine game by Toledo shortstop Lance Guy to upend the Saboteurs, 5-4, at Toledo Backyard Park. Guy was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Mercer Island reliever Charles Jones picked up the win to move to 3-1. Salvador Martínez suffered the loss. Mercer Island leads the Premier AA by 4 games.
Mercer Island needed the clutch hitting of Milo Hamilton to notch the win. The second baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Screaming Eagles on top, 5-4. For the game, Hamilton had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Toledo manager Fernando Mendoza.
