The Pontiac Godfathers, despite a fine performance by Belleville pitcher Richie Ayala, grabbed a 2-1 win at Pontiac Copperdome. Ayala allowed 1 run over 6.1 innings. Christian Williams was credited with the save for Pontiac, his 2nd of the season. Early on, the Godfathers, at 14-4, have played an impressive brand of baseball.
Had Larry Norris not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Norris hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Godfathers.
"Runs were at a premium," said Pontiac manager John Moss.
