Marquette pitcher Joseph Campbell did his part in helping his team beat the Arizona Javelina, 5-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Campbell, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 10, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Bo Taylor picked up the save, his 19th.
Marquette right fielder Justin Gould contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 60th hit of the season and put the Miners ahead, 3-0.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Marquette manager Andrés Pérez.
The second-place Miners improved to 44-31.
