Miners Rack Up 2-1 Win Versus Ithaca
|
The Marquette Miners beat the Ithaca Fighting Imps, 2-1, at Imps Park. Starting pitcher Joe Winters was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Their 41-42 record puts the Miners 6th in the Premier AA.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Miners had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the first, when right fielder Patrick McKenty hit a run-scoring single. The single came off David Jordan and made the score 2-0, Miners. McKenty was 4-4 with 4 singles.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Marquette manager Andrés Pérez.
