The Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas took on the St. Petersburg Thunder at Baby Thunder Dome.
The Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas topped the St. Petersburg Thunder, 5-3, in USPL Double A action at Baby Thunder Dome. The game was highlighted by the performance of Chesapeake pitcher Ed Perkins. The winner was Perkins. He threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Stan Coffey. Mario Pérez closed it out for his 26th save.
Chesapeake used the clutch hitting of Bill Lawler to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Cangrejos Fantasmas the lead, 4-0. For the game, Lawler had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"This was a nice win for us," said Perkins. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
Their 55-29 record puts the Cangrejos Fantasmas first in the Premier AA.
