Cuesta goes 3-for-4, Leads Mariachis to Win
|
Iván Cuesta batted in 3 runs to lead Nuevo Mexico to a win over Olympia. The final score was 4-3. Cuesta chipped in 2 singles and 1 home run. Bob Ward, the winner, is now 3-7. He struck out 4 and walked 4 over 7.1 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The 5th-place Mariachis now have a record of 43-44.
Cuesta contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Nuevo Mexico in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Cuesta took a sinker from Guillermo Torres and stroked the home run to left. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Mariachis to leap in front, 4-2.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Nuevo Mexico skipper Andrés Ventura. "I can't complain."
