Starting pitcher Rick Burnett pitched well enough to help the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles beat the Bethesda Atoms, 4-3. In 7 innings, Burnett surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. He allowed 3 runs. Mark Sanders earned his 4th save, after closing out the game.

Oscar Meyer had a big run-scoring double for the Screaming Eagles in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Mercer Island leading 3-2 and a runner on 2nd, he got a cutter from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Julián García and swatted a double to left. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Screaming Eagles ahead, 4-2.

"First place," said Screaming Eagles manager Ricardo Vargas. "This is right where we want to be."

Mercer Island now owns a record of 62-25.
