Screaming Eagles Prevail, 1-0, Over Ithaca
|
Ithaca got a terrific performance from pitcher Josh Doss, but it wasn't enough to beat the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles. Mercer Island won the Mercer Island Grounds contest, 1-0. Doss threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Rick Burnett got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 7 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 4. Picking up his 5th save was 25-year old left-handed pitcher Randall Wright.
Xue-liang Ci took Ithaca hurler Josh Doss deep in the bottom of the second. His solo home run put the Screaming Eagles on top, 1-0. In all, Ci had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
After the game, Ci refused to speak to a reporter for the Mercer Island Observer. "You've accused me of throwing teammates under the bus," he said. "So, excuse me if I decline to answer your questions."
The Screaming Eagles improved their record to 54-34 with the win over Ithaca.
