Both teams had their chances, but the Olympia Ogres eventually prevailed.
The Olympia Ogres spoiled a good performance by Nuevo Mexico right fielder José Bazaldua, bumping off Nuevo Mexico, 6-5, at Mariachi Band Shell. Bazaldua went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. The winner was John Borrett in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Dan Mullally took the loss.
Olympia used the timely hitting of António Torres to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Ogres on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Torres.
With the victory, the Ogres record stands at 45-43.
