Thunder Win at Nuevo Mexico, 6-2
St. Petersburg pitcher Gustavo Villa had a large part in his team beating the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis, 6-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winner was Villa. He threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Victor Collins. The save went to Troy Edwards, his 17th this season.

Billy García had a big 2-run double for the Thunder in the top of the fourth inning. With St. Petersburg leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Victor Collins, who is tied for 8th in the PAA in quality starts with 11, and swatted a double to center. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunder ahead, 3-0.

Said losing manager Andrés Ventura: "Obviously, we wished for a better outcome."

The Thunder now have a record of 37-54 with the win over Nuevo Mexico.
