Mariachis Need Extra Innings to Top Atoms, 7-5
|
The Nuevo Mexico Mariachis picked up a win at Atoms Field, taking down the Bethesda Atoms, 7-5, in 13 innings. On the mound for Nuevo Mexico was left-hander Gilberto Espinoza. He played a central role in the triumph. The winner in relief was Luis García. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 4-1. Burt Dickerson got the save, the 2nd for him this season.
Nuevo Mexico used a timely hit from Vicente González to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 13th inning to put the Mariachis ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"Feels good to get the job done," González said after the game.
The Mariachis, at 54-40, sit in 4th place in the Premier AA.
