Ithaca picked up a win at Asheville Park, bumping off the Asheville Highlanders, 4-3. Pitcher Wan-hua Yi was a major reason the Fighting Imps emerged victorious. In 7.1 innings, Yi surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Denny Schneider was called on to finish, recording his 29th save.
Ithaca used a well-timed hit by Eppe Nuesink to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Fighting Imps ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 2 at-bats, it was important.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Nuesink told the Ithaca Herald.
Asheville has now lost 4 straight.
