Pilgrims Drop Mariachis, 4-1
|
Providence pitcher Jamie Gauthier did his part in helping his team beat the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis, 4-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. The winner was Gauthier. He threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Gilberto Espinoza. Toshiki Matsushita collected save number 16.
Providence used a timely hit from Tsuneyo Hirata to get the win. The designated hitter delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pilgrims on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Said losing manager John Sirica: "Give the Pilgrims credit. They played a better game than we did."
The Pilgrims now have a record of 30-67.
