8 Straight Wins for Hawks
|
The Laredo Hawks rode a solid performance from 21-year-old starting pitcher Rubén Quintana to a win, beating the Idaho Falls Chukars, 4-2, at Hawks Field. Quintana, now 3-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The first-place Hawks have won 8 straight.
Juan Álvarez had a big 2-run double for the Hawks in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Laredo leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from Earnest McClure, who is tied for 2nd in the 3A in complete games with 1, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hawks ahead, 4-0.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Álvarez.
