Vipers Lose By a Run at Ithaca
|
The Ithaca Fighting Imps and Vancouver Vipers played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
Ithaca Fighting Imps starter Salvador Pérez hurled his team past the Vancouver Vipers, 2-1. Pérez, now 9-8, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. David Cole earned his 21st save in 22 chances.
Ithaca first baseman Jerry Knight contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 130th hit of the season and put the Fighting Imps ahead, 2-1.
"Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said Pérez. "Those qualities define our team."
The victory gives Ithaca a record of 57-43.
