In a low-scoring contest between the Bethesda Atoms and the Olympia Ogres, 22-year old right-handed pitcher Bob McCann proved to be the difference. The Bethesda right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-1 Atoms win. Bethesda reliever Fred Rucker snagged the win, upping his record to 4-6. Miguel Ortíz shouldered the loss. By defeating Olympia, the 6th-place Atoms improved to 50-51.

Bethesda needed the clutch hitting of Lawrence Moore to seal the deal. The designated hitter swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Atoms on top, 3-1. For the game, Moore had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"That was your kind of game, if you like high drama," said Atoms manager Esteban Garza.
