Cuellar Goes Wild, But Turbeaus Win
|
The Gulf Coast Turbeaus besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Nuevo Mexico designated hitter Ricardo Cuellar by beating the Mariachis, 10-5, at Mobile Home Park. Cuellar went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Danny Hill, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-7. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 0. The Turbeaus raised their record to 38-64.
Carsten Smulders took Nuevo Mexico hurler William Nevárez deep in the bottom of the third. His 3-run home run put the Turbeaus on top, 5-2. In all, Smulders had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
"We hit the ball hard," said Gulf Coast manager Neal Davis. "Line drive after line drive."
