Drooping Manatees Lose 6th Straight
|
The Belleville Bulls took Matlacha pitcher Manny González's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Fuller Park. The final score had Belleville getting past the Manatees, 3-1. González went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 4. Jimmy Jeffries snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 2.1 innings. He's now 1-1 on the season. Francisco Valenzuela earned the save for Belleville, his 11th of the year.
In the top of the ninth, Chris Bursey, who is tied for 5th in the 3A with a .950 OPS, delivered for Belleville. That's when he belted a 3-run home run, putting the Bulls up, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a climactic one.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Bursey said after the game.
The Manatees, at 16-19, have lost 6 in a row.
