José Mondragon did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids from being beaten, 6-4, to the Hollywood Shredders at The Hollywood Bowl. Mondragon was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Morie Wada, the winner, goes to 1-1. He allowed 4 runs on 10 hits, with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts over 8 innings. Shi-min Sun recorded his 1st save for Hollywood.
Jason Cholmondoley had a big 2-run double for the Shredders in the bottom of the third inning. With Hollywood leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Mitsuo Yoshida, who finished 2nd in the PL in innings pitched with 165.1 in 2061, and swatted a double to right. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Shredders ahead, 4-0.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Cholmondoley.
With the loss, Northern Virginia is 5-6.
