The Memphis Mockingbirds could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Marvin Velásquez into a win. Instead, the Toledo Stingers prevailed, 3-1. Velásquez threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The winner in relief was Gilbert Owen. He is now 9-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. Toledo raised its record to 61-43 with the win.

With two out in the top of the fifth, David Ruíz put Toledo in front, 2-0, with a run-scoring single. The Stingers went on to win the ballgame.

"It's still just a game," said Ruíz, "whether you win or lose."
