In a low-scoring tilt between the Laredo Hawks and the Caldwell Chiefs, 24-year old right-handed pitcher Jesús Cardenas was the difference-maker. The Laredo right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win in 10 innings. Hou-kang Wu earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. With the win over Caldwell, the Hawks improved to 24-14.

The result might have been different for Laredo, had it not been for Grease Zerk, the former first round draft pick . Zerk stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Laredo up, 2-1. For the game, he had 1 double and 3 singles in 5 at-bats.

"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped Caldwell manager Jorge Agramunt. "Obviously."
