Manatees in Free Fall, Lose 9th Straight
|
The Alameda Airmen pushed past the Matlacha Manatees, 11-7, in 10 innings at Fuller Park. Rick O'Shea went 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 4, to lead the charge. Chris Bright snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Mark King suffered the loss. Ed Jordan nailed down his 3rd save.
Alameda used the timely hitting of Jemke Coppens to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Airmen on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We're not going to feel sorry for ourselves," said Matlacha skipper Howard Lee. "Wouldn't do any good."
Alameda, now 20-18, holds down 4th place in the Menard's A.
