Manatees Win at Washington, 4-3
|
Washington left fielder Gerald Fontenot had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 4-3, to Matlacha at Washington Park. Fontenot went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Manny González was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 9 strikeouts. Jerry Bower closed it out for his 2nd save.
The Manatees got a big at-bat from designated hitter Heimo Siurulainen. For the game, Siurulainen went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Matlacha a 2-0 lead.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Washington manager Kyu-cheol Kye. "But we decided not to take it."
Matlacha, at 18-22, occupies 8th place in the Menard's A.
