Expos Shut Out Hawks, 4-0
|
Niagara Falls starter Robinson Abonia put the Laredo offense in a vise grip. The left-hander relied heavily on his cutter in leading the Expos to a 4-0 win. In 7.1 innings, Abonia surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. The Expos saw their win-loss record go to 25-16. At the same time, the Hawks fell to 21-20.
Waylon Cross had a big 2-run double for the Expos in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Niagara Falls leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Denny Springer and swatted a double to left. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Expos ahead, 3-0.
"I was able to fill up the zone," said Abonia.
